With the start of the 2023 school year right around the corner, it’s a good time for veterans to refresh their knowledge and skills and for newly recruited ALTs to learn about their new roles. To support you in your school experience, ALTTO offers course modules that provide insight into the academic environment, foundations for teaching skills, and resources to point you in the direction of further learning.

About our Courses
ALTTO’s courses are hosted on Moodle, a Learning Management System (LMS) widely used in post-secondary education. This open-source LMS is easy for learners to use and delivers course content accessible on computers and mobile devices. Through learning on this LMS, you not only receive insight into teaching practices but also become familiar with the online learning environment that many schools in Japan are adopting.

In the spirit of supporting the community of ALTs and educators in Japan, the courses are free. The courses are self-paced and you can join any time. On completion of the course, you can download a certificate demonstrating your progress.

We are a Community
Many of our course runners are current and former ALTs. Course runners share their knowledge based on real classrooms they’ve participated in, their insights into Japan’s school culture, and current practices in English language education.

When you participate in the courses, you are asked to respond to reflection questions based on the course content and your lived experience. Your responses contribute to the fund of knowledge that ALTs can draw from.
